MATCH BOX +
KIMONO
2025 | DELTA, BC | CONCEPT STAGE

Match Box and Kimono form an intimate backyard retreat shaped by the philosophy of Ancient Modernism, where primal materials and contemporary clarity meet in quiet equilibrium. Conceived as a pair of elemental structures, the sauna pavilion and fire pavilion create a sanctuary rooted in ritual, atmosphere, and the honest expression of stone, timber, and corten steel.
Match Box anchors the sequence with its distilled program of heat, cold, water, and rest. Its forms feel unearthed rather than built, a compact sanctuary designed for grounding the body through temperature, texture, and light. Across the courtyard, Kimono folds layered corten and wood around the fire, creating a sheltered hearth that glows at the center of the landscape.
Every plane, opening, and overlap is placed with intention to frame stillness, conversation, and connection to the elements. Together, the two structures create a retreat that is raw and refined, ancient and modern, inviting a slower pace and a deeper presence.

At Longpre Architecture, we shape environments that feel inevitable, as though the land had always been waiting for them. Match Box and Kimono continue that pursuit, offering a quiet refuge where material, ritual, and atmosphere align.
