ABOUT US
Longpre Architecture is a Vancouver based, internationally informed architecture studio designing homes, multiplexes, and multi family developments.

Founded by David Longpre in 2022, the studio was created from a belief that architecture should be human first. Our work begins with people, place, story, and the life a building is meant to hold. We are not interested in architecture as image alone. We are interested in architecture as a vessel for human life.

We call this idea Vessels for the Soul.

To us, architecture is the meeting point between the practical and the unseen. It must answer budgets, bylaws, permits, construction, and use, but it must also speak to memory, ritual, belonging, wellbeing, and the deeper life within. A home is never only a structure. It is where people gather, recover, change, grieve, celebrate, and become.

The firm is shaped by international study, lived experience abroad, and a deep interest in the spiritual and cultural traditions that have always connected people to place. Our perspective draws from Japan, Buddhism, Shinto, Christianity, ancient religious systems, Hermetic principles, psychology, material honesty, heritage, and the study of what it means to be human.

This philosophy is grounded by discipline. We are licensed architects providing design, permitting, consultant coordination, and construction oversight. We carry projects through complexity with care, craft, and backbone, protecting the integrity, livability, and soul of the work until it stands in the world, built right.

Longpre Architecture exists to make architecture human again, through drawings, materials, process, construction, and the lives that unfold within.

The machine makes housing. We make homes.

OUR VISION
To awaken the soul of architecture through human first design, crafting vessels for the soul where the body finds grounding, the spirit awakens, and the human being comes home.
OUR MISSION
To carry every home and place from vision into reality with care, craft, and backbone, protecting the soul of the work until it stands in the world, built right.

HOW WE CARRY THE PROJECT
At Longpre Architecture, the process is not just about producing drawings. It is about carrying a vision through the real pressures of design, permits, consultants, contractors, construction, budgets, and use. We guide each home from first conversation to completion with clarity, care, and backbone, protecting the integrity and soul of the work as it becomes real.

WHAT TO EXPECT
Discovery & Vision
Every home begins with listening. We take time to understand the people, the site, the constraints, and the life the home is meant to support. Before anything is drawn, we search for the emotional, practical, and spiritual truth of the project, so the work begins from something real.
Design + Team Coordination
With the vision established, we shape the architecture and assemble the right team around it. The design must carry beauty, function, budget, code, and buildability at the same time. We work with consultants, contractors, and collaborators who respect the project and understand what is at stake.
Permitting & Coordination
The permitting process can make or break a project. City rules are technical, shifting, and often difficult to interpret. Missing information, unclear strategy, consultant gaps, or small documentation errors can cost months. We guide clients through zoning, rezoning, permits, consultants, and city coordination with persistence and foresight, helping protect the project from avoidable delays, confusion, and costly missteps.
Construction Oversight
When construction begins, the project enters its most vulnerable phase. Drawings meet real materials, real trades, real budgets, and real pressure. We stay involved to protect the design intent, review the work, respond to issues, and help keep the project aligned with the vision until it is built right.
Post-Completion & Lasting Relationships
Our work does not end with a drawing package. We care about how the finished home is lived in, how it supports daily life, and how it continues to carry meaning over time. The best projects become more than buildings. They become places of trust, memory, and transformation.
WHAT GUIDES US

SOUL
At Longpre Architecture, soul is the quiet life within a place.
It is not decoration, image, or spectacle. It is the presence a home carries when it has been made with care, restraint, and reverence. A soulful building does not compete for attention. It listens. It holds. It allows life to unfold with dignity.

We believe a home should feel like a kind of temple for the people who live there, a place of grounding, reflection, protection, and return. A place where meals, grief, laughter, rest, illness, prayer, work, family, solitude, and transformation are all given room to exist.

This belief is shaped by our study of human experience, psychology, Buddhism, Shinto, and the spiritual traditions that understand place as more than matter. Space can hold presence. It can calm the body, open the spirit, and help the human being come home to themselves.

That is why we resist architecture made only by the machine. A home is not a product, a prompt, an image, or a commodity. It must be human, shaped by listening, judgment, craft, responsibility, and care.
Soul lives in the visible and the unseen, in light, silence, threshold, material, proportion, and pause. It is also in the waterproofing, the envelope, the detail, the restraint, and the decisions protected when no one is watching.

To us, a vessel for the soul is a home humble enough to serve, strong enough to endure, quiet enough to restore, and deep enough to hold the life within. This is where the human being comes home.
COMING HOME
Coming home is not only returning to a building. It is returning to yourself.

At Longpre Architecture, home is not a fixed answer. It is an ongoing study, a perpetual essay on what it means to be human through place. Each project asks the question again: what does this person, this family, this site, this moment in life need in order to feel grounded, protected, and whole?

A true home receives the whole human being. It gives the body a place to soften, the mind a place to quiet, and the spirit space to awaken. It holds the ordinary rituals of daily life, meals, rest, work, solitude, conversation, grief, celebration, and change, while quietly supporting the deeper life within.

We believe homes should offer shelter without confinement, beauty without performance, and calm without emptiness. They should be humble, human, and alive.

This is why we design with restraint, care, material honesty, light, proportion, and sequence. A home should not compete with the people who live there. It should support them through uncertainty, growth, difficulty, recovery, and transformation.

To come home is to be held by a place that knows how to serve, a place where life can deepen, and where the human being can return, remember, and become.

OUR PROMISE
At Longpre Architecture, our promise is not that the process will always be easy. It will not be. Building a home can be emotional, technical, expensive, uncertain, and deeply personal. It can test people, relationships, budgets, and conviction.

Our promise is that you will not move through it alone.

We will listen carefully, design with care, and carry the work with backbone. We will guide you through the pressure of decisions, permits, consultants, contractors, construction, and change. We will protect the soul, integrity, and livability of the project as it becomes real.

That means we will stand with you, but we will not simply agree with you. When the project needs protection, we will say so. When a shortcut risks the work, we will challenge it. When the process becomes unclear, we will help bring it back to what matters.

Our loyalty is to the home, to the life it is meant to hold, and to the vision strong enough to stand in the world, built right.

The machine makes housing. We make homes.
